Milliways Bar is a text-based roleplaying community hosted at LiveJournal.com. The main bar can be found here.
It's a place for those that need to relax at the end of the Universe. We welcome anyone that'd feasibly be here- gods and goddesses, angels, demons, anthropomorphic personifications, mortals and immortals... anyone can join.
Only one of each character is welcome here, though multiple personifications of one concept are welcome- Pratchett's Death and Gaiman's death can co-exist for example. Kevin Smith's Loki is welcome to argue with Mask II's Low Key. People are also welcome to play well-known, public domain characters without reference to one particular set of texts/whatever (eg: Lucifer, the arch-angel Gabriel, Santa Claus, etc etc...), except, and this is important, any variation, fandom or no, on the major world deities, such as Allah or the Judeo-Christian God. Characters such as Buddha and Siddhartha, we will allow, on the grounds that, whilst they are widely worshiped, and are major religious figures, they are not deities. Historical characters are allowed, as long as they are fictional representations thereof (eg: William Shakespeare as portrayed in 'Shakespeare In Love', Rasputin as portrayed in 'Rasputin', Gandhi from 'Gandhi', etc...).
Note: We do not accept original characters, or fanfiction characters, nor alternate-universe (AU) versions of a character, unless said AU versions are featured in the canon. The character you wish to play as must have an established canonical background, no matter how small - one mention in a book, one cameo in a tv series - in the non-fanwork source of your choice.

App Process

Applications are open for the first week of every month, and are done anonymously through Email.
NOTE: AS OF SEPTEMBER '06, NO PLAYER MAY HAVE MORE THAN TEN ACTIVE CHARACTERS.
If you already have ten characters and wish to app another, you will need to retire or delete one of the ones you already have. See here for instructions.
This does not apply for emergency plot characters, on the condition that said characters are played for that plot only. If the characters are to continue to be played after the plot for which they are apped, then they fall under this restriction. If you have already filled your character limit, and require an emergency plot character, please contact a mod, and we will see what we can do to help you.
NOTE: AS OF MARCH '06, NO PLAYER CAN APPLY FOR MORE THAN TWO CHARACTERS PER MONTH
Please read before sending in an application: Applications are open the first week of every month, unless otherwise posted in [info]ways_back_room. (All players and applicants should watch this community from either a mun or character journal.) Please do not send in an application during the other three weeks of the month, unless it is for an emergency plot character as mentioned above.
We will approve characters in order, from first applied-for to last; any applications encountered after a player's first two applications for the month have been approved will be returned to the player unapproved. As above, however, if more than two characters are required for an emergency plot situation, contact a moderator and we'll see what we can do.

Okay everyone, listen up. Most of you have probably already heard about this from various corners of your flists, but for those of you who haven't: as per the latest post in news, LJ is currently planning a purge of deleted, suspended, and inactive accounts.
From the news post:
A journal is defined as inactive if it has not been logged into for 24 consecutive months. A community is defined as inactive if has not been updated for 24 consecutive months. Once an account is eligible to be purged for inactivity, the owner will be sent an email to alert them of the inactive status. The owner will then have two weeks to log into the journal or post to their community to prevent it from being deleted. If the owner does not log in or post, the account will be deleted and treated like any other deleted account (the owner will have 30 days to log in and undelete the account to prevent it from being purged). Purging inactive accounts will take place sometime after we've begun purging suspended accounts, probably in late August.

Paradox
Typically served fried, but has been known to be served other ways as well, including dipped in chocolate. Tastes exactly like an onion ring doesn't. Also serves in coating the stomach of the person eating it, in theory preventing any serious alcohol poisoning. In theory. One of the few things edible to both matter- and energy-based lifeforms.
Drink
Atlantean
Atlantean is a wine from the lost city of Atlantis (from Neverwhere canon). In Millicanon, it is primarily a beverage for ethereals and entities with no livers or very sturdy ones. Mortals may enjoy small quantities. It is a white wine, and it has its own golden light. It will get mortals very drunk, very quickly, and it might make you think of sun and sky and a simpler world. You'll have one hell of a hangover in the morning, too.
